Experience Overview

This two-week guided tour traverses the most majestic terrain of Canada before dipping into the U.S. Start in Vancouver, where the famous totem poles in the lush Stanley Park are worth of a photo — or 10. Cruise across the serene, mirror-like waters of Maligne Lake, watching as the reflection of the Canadian Rockies wave in the vessel’s wake. Enjoy a tour of Glacier Skywalk, a glass walkway above the Sunwapta Valley, where you will see waterfalls and wildlife. Explore the rugged wonder of Banff National Park on a helicopter or gondola ride. In Washington, enjoy an artisanal lunch paired with local wines. And look for flying fish at Seattle’s Pike Place Market, where fishmongers at the world-famous farmers market are apt to toss fresh filets from stand to stand.

Travel guide was outstanding! Accommodations were very nice. Itinerary was great because it included Glacier NP. Sadly couldn’t visit Jasper due to the recent fires!…completely understandable! I would highly recommend our Insight Travel Guide She was the best tour guide from any Insight Vacations or other tour company vacations that I’ve taken over several years. Due to recent fires in Jasper, our itinerary was slightly changed by Insight. was top notch in keeping us informed of any changes. She was well prepared in background info. relating to the sights as we traveled on the bus. She had great stories and videos. Extra surprises were thrown in as we traveled from place to place. She seemed to go out of her way to follow up with clients’ needs such as dietary as requested by several travelers. Was always enthusiastic and very personable in making sure we all had a great time! All travelers on our trip were very nice and respected the time limits on our various stops. (The wine tasting lunch was outstanding and enjoyed very much by all. A few group meals included salmon as a meal choice….too much salmon and/or a variety of other choices should be offered….my only negative!

We had the best travel director her knowledge and enthusiasm were catchy. Hands on and always going the extra mile. Only giving a 3 because they taken out due to the tragic fires there. They did the best to fill in for it but that took a lot of travel time . The natural beauty has to be experienced by being there , photos don’t cut it.

They were great. She was very informative and showed many informational movies plus she kept us occupied on the long drives. One of our informational speakers didn’t show up due to miscommunication and she was able to get us all booked in cruise on McDonald Lake which was great. It was a beautiful tour. Even though we couldn’t go to Jasper because of the fire we were changed to Revelstoke which was a great hotel with beautiful views. This was our 3rd Insight tour and it was just as great as the 2 US National Parks tours we took. Our guide was excellent and was always surprising us with movies and games during the long drives. We couldn't ask for a better driver. *Personal information removed by Feefo* got us everywhere we needed to go safe and sound.

More attention should be spent on making sure room allocations match people’s preferences in terms of bed preferences. It is clear who are couples, families and singles by day two and the pre form before the tour also includes this information. Make sure the comfort and lunch stops are well thought through, where people can see things and have the opportunity to take photos and enjoy the parks, as we’ve been in previous tours and had some diligent directors. All breakfasts included in the tour should have the coffee and tea complimentary (we had to pay for the coffee at breakfast at the hotel in Spokane). People also like to know the areas they are passing by. All this should be already part of the tour. We enjoyed visiting the Capilano Suspension Bridge, Butchart Gardens, the Columbia Icefield Skywalk and Athabasca Glacier at Jasper National Park, but we spent many hours travelling on the coach before ending the day arriving at the designated hotel. We drove through a number of outstanding national parks only stopping at gas stations or visitor centres for comfort breaks and there were very few opportunities to take photos of the Canadian Rockies and Pacific coast along the way (the coach windows are wide but reflected the interior rather than the exterior). We also passed some pretty little towns (without stopping) and the lunch stops were equally disappointing, again at gas stations or visitor centres. The comfort breaks included one time a fruit and vegetable store with the dirtiest toilets we’ve ever come across and on another day, a roadhouse in the middle of nowhere, that charged 30 dollars for a coffee and two small packets of crisps. All in all it felt that we spent too much time travelling and too little actually enjoying the Canadian Rockies. Based on our experience, the itinerary needs quite a bit of improvement, for example if stopping for 1-1.5 hours for lunch, make sure it is at one of the pretty little towns we passed or allow some time at 1-2 sites within the national parks for people to feel that they have been there. Furthermore people would rather arrive earlier at the hotel (even if the rooms are not ready) than spend 1-1.5 hours at lunch (where there was nothing to see), just to kill time, as it happened on this tour many times. Also, make a point of stopping along the way for taking quick photos, and giving some general information of the area we’re passing by, and btw seat rotation should be for everyone as we all paid for the trip, as in our tour there were a cohort that stayed all the time within the coach’s middle zone. In terms of the hotels, make a point of ensuring that the rooms are allocated according to people’s bed preferences, for example, a mother and daughter travelling who have requested twin beds, instead they spent the night in a tiny room with a single, very small bed, whilst married couples on their tour got rooms with twin beds which they didn’t ask for. In one hotel, we had the last room right next to the laundry room and when we got into the room, we found complimentary ear *****! Finally, we stopped briefly for a comfort break in Coeur de Alene (Idaho) which was beautiful and much more preferable than spending the night, about half an hour away at Spokane. Overall more thought is needed in terms of the itinerary and making sure that people get to experience and enjoy the magnificent Canadian Rockies and Pacific coast.

Trip Rating It was disappointing about the wild fires that sidelined the overnight trip to Jasper. The substitute location of Revelstoke was adequate. We were given ample time to set up a dinner reservation in the town. The mountains were beautiful as well as the views traveling, I didn’t realize there would be so much time spent traveling in the bus on this trip. I’m not sure if the wildfire sideline added to additional bus time or not. Lots of folks were coughing and moving seats each day among the sick people was less than desirable. It would have been great if Lysol was sprayed in the bus to maybe mitigate spread. Glacier Mountain Lodge and Grouse Mountain Lodge were super hotels. I enjoyed the cabins at Mc Donald Lodge. It was nice to rough it for a night and see the stars. Hotel in Spokane was great. We had a nice cocktail reception and dinner. However, we had to pay for our coffee with breakfast in the morning which I thought was off putting. The arrival in Seattle was ok. I would have appreciated a planned event or short outing the first night. Our tour director, did walk us us to the waterfront Pike Place after getting our rooms. It would have been nice to have some plans or reservations for dinner. The area is very hilly and we were traveling with my Mom who has knee issues. My sister and I walked around and explored the waterfront area while mom stayed back at the hotel. Had we known we could have made arrangements for dinner somewhere. As it worked out for us we ended up going to the rooftop bar for appetizers as the restaurant in the hotel closed at 9. The trip was good but lots of bus riding and lots of sick passengers. The tour director was great as well as the bus driver.

There was a vast amount of land travelled in 14 days! It did feel like there was a lot of time on the coach. At times, I felt like there wasn’t enough time to explore some of the destinations. With arrivals late in the day, and either early morning excursions or departures, I felt like I was missing out on exploring some of the destinations. All the more reason to go back!

Beautiful scenery. Some good excursions. Great hotels ( except within Glacier Ntl Park). But an excessive amount of time on a bus.
