FAQs

  • Lima: What does a modular trip mean? A modular trip means fellow travellers will join and leave at various locations. There’ll be some goodbyes, sure, but there’ll also be plenty of hellos with new like-minded travellers.
  • Iguazú Falls: What can I expect when travelling in Argentina and Brazil? Flexibility is key when you’re travelling in Latin America. The itinerary will give you a good idea of what your trip is going to look like. But routes, schedules, hotels & modes of transportation may be subject to change without prior notice because of local circumstances or events beyond Contiki’s control.
  • Iguazú Falls: Which currency should I bring? You’ll need to bring USD cash with you, as it’s the only way to pay for the Free Time Add-Ons on this trip. You’ll receive the cost of each option in your Welcome Email. Plus, we recommend you bring Visa and/or Master Card (American Express or Discover cards aren’t widely accepted).
  • Iguazú Falls: Is it customary to tip? You’ll usually receive a 10% service charge on your restaurant bill. But tipping isn’t a requirement. Either way, if you’re pleased with your service, a tip will always be appreciated! We recommend tipping 12% of the total bill.
  • Iguazú Falls: Can I get access to an ATM when in Argentina and Brazil? It depends on where you’re travelling to. Cities in Argentina and Brazil have lots of ATMs (just be careful of those sneaky fees). But you’re better off carrying cash when visiting rural places.
  • Iguazú Falls: What should I pack for my trip? You’ll be able to buy a lot of things at an affordable price once you arrive. But we’d suggest you bring:  • Summer clothes: shorts and lightweight tops are essential for keeping cool. • Warm overcoat: there’ll be colder parts of your trip, even in summertime. • Good walking socks & shoes: keep comfy on any terrain. • Sturdy backpack: one you don’t mind getting dusty too!
  • Iguazú Falls: How much luggage can I bring? You can bring 1 hand luggage + 1 suitcase or backpack per person.  Internal flights are included in this trip (your Trip Manager will have your tickets ready for you). Each traveller is allowed 1 checked bag & 1 carry-on bag/personal item (eg: small backpack/handbag or laptop bag). Our suitcase restriction above means that the checked bag will be within the limitation for this flight. The carry-on bag must not exceed 114 cm (45”). Extra or overweight bags will incur a fee by the airline which is the traveller’s responsibility. Fees range from US$25.00-US$100.00.
  • Iguazú Falls: What is the weather like in Argentina and Brazil? Argentina’s climate is wildly diverse - think warm, moderate, arid, and cold zones. Buenos Aires has hot, humid summers (up to 100°F) and mild winters (rarely below 40°F). Brazil? Equatorial in the north, tropical in the center, and subtropical down south. Rio stays warm year-round, with a hot, muggy season from December to March. Pack accordingly!
  • Iguazú Falls: Is tap water safe to drink? Drinking tap water isn’t recommend. So, please stick to bottled water (even when brushing your teeth). There will be plenty of opportunities to purchase bottled water during the trip.
  • Iguazú Falls: Will I need vaccinations prior to travelling? Please check the latest travel info from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention if you're travelling to Argentina and Brazil. We also recommend that you consult your local health clinic or doctor for more details.
  • Iguazú Falls: Is there any trip specific information I need to know? Contiki sometimes uses ground handlers or third parties to assist with the full or partial operation of our products. The ground handler for this trip is Encounter Latin America.
  • Iguazú Falls: What is the role of the Trip Manager? Your Trip Manager brings the group together with all the info, fun facts and food recommendations you'll ever need. Plus, they’ll ensure everything runs smoothly and address any issues. They’ll be there with you throughout the trip and will be your go-to person if you need anything. They’ll also fill you in on the cultural and historical context of the places you visit with some informal talks when relevant.
  • Iguazú Falls: What power adapters do I need? Most places use similar plugs to the US and Europe, but it’s a good idea to bring a circular two-prong adapter just in case. No voltage converter is needed for devices like phones and laptops, but you may need one for high-powered devices (e.g., hairdryers).

Included Experience

  • Buenos Aires: Experience the passion and glamour of Argentina’s capital city, with an expert guide showing you the sights.
  • Buenos Aires: You can’t go to Argentina and not watch live Tango dancing! It’s wrong. Like eating a steak without a glass of red.
  • Buenos Aires: Get set to tick another travel goal off the bucket list. We’re jetting straight into the gateway for Iguassu Falls.
  • Iguazú Falls: This World Wonder is a fiesta for the imagination. The cascades of spraying waterfalls and subtropical forest make an epic backdrop
  • Iguazú Falls: There ain’t no BBQ like a Brazilian BBQ! Grab your Contiki fam and feast on these grilled skewers.
  • Iguazú Falls: These colossal falls make the ultimate backdrop for a group selfie. Strike a pose with your Contiki fam.
  • Iguazú Falls:
  • Iguazú Falls: Woohoo! We’re en route to Brazil's carnival capital. Try to catch a glimpse of the Christ the Redeemer statue from the sky
  • Rio de Janeiro: Christ the Redeemer. Sugarloaf. Copacabana. Ipanema. It’s all here to fill up up your heart and your Insta feed.
  • Rio de Janeiro: This needs no introduction. Tick this iconic statue off your #travelgoals bucket list. And don’t forget your camera.
  • Rio de Janeiro: Ever heard of Favelas? They're growing neighbourhoods in Brazil. And on this tour, we'll visit Favela Cantagalo near Rio. We'll check out the Portal of Saint Roman, walk through alleyways, see the 10 paintings of the Houses-Screen, and even stop by a few viewpoints along the way. You'll even visit the Museu de Favela-MUF, a historical museum about memories and cultural heritage of favelas in the world. It's a collection about 20,000 residents and their ways of life, and how their stories are an unknown but important part of Rio de Janeiro's history. Trust us, you don't wanna miss this one.
  • Rio de Janeiro: It ain't Rio Carnival if there ain't a Bloco. Yup, today we'll join a Bloco (street party) and bust a move to some Brazilian beats.
  • Rio de Janeiro: This legendary stadium is where the Rio Carnival parades have taken place in full action for years. And guess what? We got you entry tickets to witness it all IRL. Get ready for an ocean of samba dancers who'll showcase their talent to win the Carnival Champion award. Costumes encouraged!
  • Rio de Janeiro: Take a cruise along the arcing Guanabara Bay and enjoy Caiprinas and music
  • Rio de Janeiro: Spend some time with your Contiki crew, while you dine on your final meal of this trip at a local spot. Goodbyes might be bittersweet, but the food sure is so much more than that!

Tour Operator

Contiki (CA)

Contiki is a New Zealand-based tour company that caters to 18 to 35-year-olds, offering over 350 different tours in over 75 countries in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, North America, South America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.[1] It is a subsidiary of The Travel Corporation. Its tours historically had a reputation for partying;[2][3] however, it also operates wellness trips culturally immersive experiences that focus less on alcohol, which are more popular with Generation Z.[4] The company owns lodging facilities in Europe, including the Chateau De Cruix, a 16th century castle in the Beaujolais wine region, and the Gasthof Schoneck in the Austrian Tyrol. The name "Contiki" comes from the portmanteau 'Con' from the word 'Continent' and 'Tiki'; from the Māori referring to the first man, often symbolised as a pendant known as hei-tiki. It can also be attributed to the New Zealand slang 'Tiki-tour' describing taking a longer route to a destination in order to explore.[5]

Highly recommend this trip for travelers on the fence about traveling to South America for the first time. Buenos Aires, Iguassu, and Rio de Janeiro were amazing to experience with a group of like minded travelers. From the food, the adventures, and the cultural experiences, Contiki provided a variety of things to do for the entire duration of the trip. Our trip manager *Personal information removed by Feefo* was amazing and kept the group engaged the whole way through. First Contiki, and definitely will not be the last. Hired the best tour guides!

For my first overseas trip, this Contiki was perfect !! gave me all of the adventure and party lifestyle I was after! But there were a few things that could have definitely been organized better mainly regarding the way the add-on activities were set out. Overall I would give the trip a solid 8/10. Our tour guide *Personal information removed by Feefo obviously had made this trip plenty of times before and was supportive and understanding throughout the trip, he had the best club suggestions and obviously enjoyed the trip himself which made the group have an even better time. The only issue I had with the process was being informed that part of our trip was canceled 1 week before I departed, it was very short notice and difficult to then fill up the time.

I loved both countries and the immersive experiences It was very nice but there was too much drinking and partying for my personal taste. But our trip manager was good I just wish she gave us more information
