  • Glenorchy: Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife as you hike up the side of this breathtaking mountain and bond with your group. This simply is a Queenstown must-do.
  • Glenorchy: Come learn about the incredible work that goes behind conserving NZ's unique wildlife on this talk. With around 80,000 native species (many found nowhere else), it’s a biodiversity jackpot. But all the introduced mammals have wreaked havoc, pushing native species to the brink. We’ve satisfied our inner adventurer, now it’s time to satisfy our hungry tummies. Tonight, we’ll grab some dinner at a rustic 150-year-old hotel (with the mountains as our backdrop!). Plus, the view of the crystal blue river is a sight in itself. It really is an experience for a lifetime. Hungry? Luckily, the historic gold mining town of  Arrowtown (Kā Muriwai) has a spot or two to satisfy the rumble. Our home for the coming few days? The adventure capital of the world! Queenstown, it’s been a blast but we’ve gotta be off now. We’re making our way to even more mesmerising views. Twizel is a worthy stop-off on any NZ trip. Luckily, this is where you'll munch on some lunch (surrounded by enchanting natural beauty). It's a feast for your tummy and your eyes... It's hike time! Hike underneath the incredible Aoraki Mount Cook AKA Aotearoa New Zealand's highest mountain. It's one of NZ's most famous hiking tracks. Or as the Kiwis call it - 'tramping tracks'. Staying on the edge of one of NZ's most photographed lakes, we’ll arrive into the glacier-fed beauty of Tekapo. Tonight, you have the option to wind down inside a hot pool (surrounded by alpine scenery).

Day 9: Tekapo to Christchurch via Geraldine

You know it’s a good morning when you wake up to unreal lake views. And today, you have the chance to see it all from above with the famous Grand Traverse Flight! Next, we’ll get a move on, making our way back to Christchurch. This quaint farming town is the gateway to the oh-so-stunning central & southern lakes and the Canterbury plains too. (P.S. It’s a great stop to try local jams, chutneys, juices and cheeses!).  It’s time to say goodbye (sadly). What an adrenaline & scenery-packed ride it has been! But not to worry, because we’ll be back again another time, in another place, for another adventure. That’s what life’s about, right?

It can also be attributed to the New Zealand slang 'Tiki-tour' describing taking a longer route to a destination in order to explore.[5]

I wish this trip was longer! I had the best time on the Active New Zealand contiki, our trip manager and coach driver were amazing and made travel days and organising our days really seamless for us. I've been home for a week now and literally haven't stopped thinking about my NZ trip, desperate to go back already. We had heaps of optional add ons available to us and Mel was fantastic at scheduling to make sure we got to do all the activities we wanted. If I could do the same trip again with the same staff, I would in a heart beat!

The views were insane, especially when we saw the snow on the mountains. The hikes were so much fun, and Queenstown had so much to do - from adventure activities to just exploring the town. Everything about the trip was perfect - great vibes, amazing nature, and tons of laughs. Couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Contiki was very easy to book with! They answered phone calls, emails, and were able to add on extra nights accomodation pre and post trip. If you're thinking about booking this trip ABSOLUTELY 100% BOOK IT!!! I really liked this contiki because it was so versitile, you could make it as adventurous or chill, expsensive, or inexpensive, as you like depending on how many extra activites you chose to do. I really liked all of the extra activity options, there were so many and were so much fun, especially doing them with a group of people, like skydiving, canyoning, or hiking on a glacier. The accommodation for this trip was also great. Every place was close to the centre of town, and were very clean and comfortable. I was hesitant to book with contiki because I thought it was going to be all about partying, but I found because there were a lot of people it was easy to do what you were comfortable with, eg. some nights people went out and others didn't, but for the most part it wasn't a MASSIVE party vibe like what you might stereotypically think contiki to be. I also thought that our trip manager *Personal information removed by Feefo* and driver *Personal information removed by Feefo* were super accomodating, fun, and really put in so much effort to make everything work out. They were flexible, had loads of knowledge about NZ, and were able to take us to more niche places that weren't very touristy. We really got to experience the beauty of the South Island, and it was so easy not having to worry about transport because the contiki bus drove us everywhere. The last thing that I'll add is that we stayed with the same group for the whole contiki which I really liked because it felt like we really bonded and got the chance to know people in our group. I had so much fun and met so many amazing people, I would totally recommend this trip if you're thinking about going to New Zealand.

Fantastic. I had never travelled over seas before, and Contiki made it so easy and enjoyable. The guide ensured the whole group was looked after and had fun for the whole trip. I can't recommend the NZ Active trip enough. The hikes were stunning, the night-life was fantastic and the day activities were awesome. Although it is an active tour, it suited people who were looking for the party experience, those that wanted to socialise, as well as the quiet ones who were more interested in the hikes. The guides ensured everyone had options for activities, there were heaps of food options along the way and the accommodation was great. I'm so glad I went on the trip, I highly recommend Contiki!
