Itinerary
Hey there travellers! Let’s hope you’re ready for 9 days of Thai island thrills. We’ll store our bags for the day and guess what? You’re free to spend today however you please. We highly recommend catching up on the best of Bangkok’s food scene with our optional lunch tour. It’s been a long first day, folks! But it’s time for our next stop. We'll make our way to Surat Thani on an overnight train.
Accommodation: Overnight Train
Are you ready? Today’s the day we hop to our first island. We’ll arrive at Surat Thani at the crack of dawn, and head straight to Koh Pha Ngan. (Already getting some insane ocean views too!) Welcome to the land of flawless beaches and perfect aquamarine water. Hungry after all that? Fear not. We’ll sit down for a satisfying island buffet lunch with some must-try Thai food. Get some rest and grab your cameras. Head to Haad Yao Beach (one of our absolute favourites), and hit the seas for some fun in the sun.
Accommodation: Shiralea Backpackers Resort (or similar)
Meals: Lunch
Mornin' travellers! Today's agenda? Doing anything & everything you like! Chillin' on the beach. Relaxing with a massage. Exploring the island. Going on a jungle trek. You do you. Oh, and if you want some free time recs, your Trip Manager will point you in the right direction.
Accommodation: Shiralea Backpackers Resort (or similar)
Meals: Breakfast
Will we be sad to leave Koh Pha Ngan today? Maybe slightly. But with another swaying palm tree destination calling our names, we're hardly sobbing into our backpacks. Today, we’ll take a ferry to Koh Tao. And the island vibes are just getting better! Drop your bags off at the hotel on Sairee Beach (the longest beach on the west of Koh Tao) and roam the streets of this ‘Koh’ (Thai for ‘island’). If you need someone to point out the best spots, your Trip Manager is there to help! You can also take a dip in our hotel’s beach-front swimming pool. In the evening, unwind with a gorgeous sunset dinner with the crew. Either way - you’ll shore-ly have a good time!
Accommodation: Sairee Hut Resort Koh Tao (or similar)
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Getting under water should be a high priority today. Abounding in coral beauty and (wait for it) sea turtles, Koh Tao's diving reputation makes even the aquaphobes jump right in! Grab a snorkel for an island cruise and adventure, right under the waves! Above land, the island's hilly landscapes offer many pretty hiking trails and bubbling waterfalls, depending on the season.
Accommodation: Sairee Hut Resort Koh Tao (or similar)
Meals: Breakfast
Explore the narrow streets. Chill in the pool. Or dive deep into the ocean. Today you’re free to explore however you like. But if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you could do some Koh Tao Diving! Explore the Gulf of Thailand, and get a guided tour of the vibrant corals and wrecks underwater. We’ll then head back to the hotel to get some well-deserved rest.
Accommodation: Sairee Hut Resort Koh Tao (or similar)
Meals: Breakfast
Today we swap one ocean paradise for another, departing Koh Tao and cruising the turquoise waters to reach Koh Samui. Can snorkelling, swimming, soaking up the rays and sipping on fresh coconuts ever get boring? Hmm...no. Our first night in Koh Samui will see us taking in the buzzy nightlife of Chaweng Beach (if you can drag yourself away from the luxe hotel we've all checked-in to, that is.) Shop your heart out at the local markets of Samui’s busiest town (not forgetting that souvenir for your mum!) End the day with a drink and a hearty Thai meal at one of the area’s many legendary beach clubs.
Accommodation: Best Western Chaweng Samui (Previously Nora Chaweng Hotel) (or similar)
Meals: Breakfast
If you've got a taste for adventure, this glorious island offers plenty to keep hungry explorers enthralled. Take a tour on a Jeep Safari to visit the highlights of Samui. Admire the mighty Wat Phra Yai temple with its 15-metre golden Buddha statue, or see the super on-trend mummified monk at Wat Khunaram. Finally, dance the night away at one of the clubs in this party island and breathe in those last waves of Koh Samui.
Accommodation: Best Western Chaweng Samui (Previously Nora Chaweng Hotel) (or similar)
Meals: Breakfast
Armed with a totally zen outlook and a backpack full of incredible new memories,it’s time to say your teary goodbyes to your new wolf-pack. Don’t forget to exchange deets. There’s another collection of Thai islands just waiting to be explored.

The name "Contiki" comes from the portmanteau 'Con' from the word 'Continent' and 'Tiki'; from the Māori referring to the first man, often symbolised as a pendant known as hei-tiki. It can also be attributed to the New Zealand slang 'Tiki-tour' describing taking a longer route to a destination in order to explore.[5]

Absolute best time. Had the most amazing trip manage and got a really cool group. Lots of fun activities too. Booked through a travel agent but I know it's perfectly easy on the contiki website.

Everything about this trip was absolutely amazing. ur Tour Manager, was absolutely phenomenal. The way she was able to bring the group together as one on the first day made the trip a very memorable one. I have left this trip with many beautiful new friends. I would recommend this tour to everyone. It was very fun and enjoyable. I liked how there was a balance of acitivities and free time. Was available around the clock for anything that we needed, and she was a fantastic storyteller. The trip was very easy to book, and Contiki customer service was great!

My 1st and definitely not my last Contiki trip. Great parties, people and an overall amazing experience. As a solo traveler, Contiki turns what could be a daunting experience into a wild adventure. The bug has bitten and Vietnam is already booked. Thanks. Booking the trip was quick and easy. Everything you need to know is available on the website in detail.

Overall this trip was a blast - I was fortunate to be part of an unusually small tour group (16ppl) which I think contributed positively to the experience. The highlights were the jeep tour, hanging out at all the gorgeous beach bars, and having such a lovely and knowledgeable tour manager. I felt there was a good balance of free time and activity time, and would recommend doing all the add-ons. Everything was well organised and I always felt safe. Unfortunately, a lot of the water-based activities were cancelled or changed and/or ended up being pretty average experiences - if you're on this trip for the snorkelling or diving, there seem to be certain times of the year when conditions consistently aren't suitable, so maybe a switch up in add-ons for specific seasons could be an idea for this tour. The Koh Samui and Koh Tao accommodations were both incredible in terms of quality and location. The Koh Phangan one was less great - more isolated location, lower quality service. TL:DR; Awesome trip if you're looking for a good mix of adventure and down-time. Don't book this trip if you get seasick! My e-documents were never available to me through the contiki website.

This trip is great if you want to hang out and CHILL. If you want to see or do anything on this trip you'll need to pay extra for it as NOTHING is included on the trip aside from some food, transportation, & accommodation. It would have been great for the sight seeing to be included on the trip as we had a significant amount of down time. If you like to party, this trip isn't for you ( check out island hopper west). BUT the full moon party fell on the days of this trip and it was worth putting in the effort to go. I love contiki with my whole heart. Currently preparing for contiki #7! Make sure you read in detail about the trips before signing up so you go into it knowing what to expect. The contiki team is amazing and go above and beyond to try and make sure you have a good time.
