Experience Overview

From Vienna to Ljubljana and onto Dubrovnik, this grand tour takes in the natural wonders of Plitviče National Park, the historic wartime Sarajevo Tunnel of Hope and the ancient town of Trogir—founded by the Greek Empire over 2000 years ago. In the Slovenian capital, the intoxicating aromas of Ljubljanan’s Central Market are food for the soul, while the Croatian capital of Zagreb showcases the architectural grandeur of its twin towns. A tour of the Dalmatian Riviera serves up the 1700-year-old cellars of Split and the pearl of the Adriatic—Dubrovnik.

Great. The T D, was fantastic with her knowledge and organisational skills. The coach driver, was highly skilled, patient and engaging with his passengers while at all times remaining professional. The places we visited were interesting. The pace was okay for us 68 and 66 but older passengers may have struggled a little but no one was ever late for our departures.

This tour encompassed rich cultural history of each of the Balkan countries, their natural landscape beauty, with hindsight’s of their various struggles before becoming independent nations. The experience inspired me to search more and have a better understanding from when they were part of the then Yugoslavia, so enriching and an eye opener. The itinerary was well managed, with a good mix of hectic, busy, fun activities but also allowed us free moments to rest, relax, or do exploring at our own pace and time. The program prepared by our assigned Tour Director, Ms. Rhi Smith I would say was the best in all of my Insight Vacations travel so far. Highlights of which among others was when our group of 30 travellers divided into four groups, and each group had dinner with a local ordinary family as our host in Sarajevo. This experience is committed to one of my best memories ever. And then there’s the beautiful Plitvice national Park, the Mostar Bridge, Lake Bled, enchanting Kotor and Montenegro, the historical Diocletian Palace and finally the “must see and experience “, Dubrovnik!! Eastern Capitals And The Dalmatian Riviera tour is highly recommended to all avid travellers!!!

Kathy was available to guide us when a surprise flight plan had to be altered. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable of our itinerary and also had a great sense of humor which made the trip more fun. She was a quick thinker as demonstrated by having rain ponchos and umbrella ready when surprise rain storms popped up. Driver Mario was very mind and had much experience with such a large bus.

Yes, Service is excellent and beyond what was expected. Yes. The places were new to us, not the regular/usual European destinations we've been too. It gave us a different perspective of the world history we read in books/news.

A great trip to get a feel of Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina. Not rushed with two-night stays in most places and time to head off and do your own thing along with many optional extras you can chose if you wish. Tour guide was an excellent Tour Director and handled all requests to make a good holiday great.

Well organised covered as much as possible. Great driver and director. Loved it and the Director was fantastic would’ve liked to spend more time in some places and less in others. Some of the optionals were overpriced for what we got and food not so good. I had exactly the same meal and vegetables 3 consecutive nights at different places. It would’ve been nice if I was told that the meal I chose would be identical at each place I would’ve chosen differently as we were unable to alter our choices.

Tour guide was one of the best tour directors we've ever had. She brought us together as a group and made our experience exceptional. I would like to have had more time in Dubrovnek and less time in Zebgreb. Otherwise the activities and special excursions were fantastic. The meal with the family in Savejevo was a huge highlight of our trip.

The service is without question exceptional. The tour director and the driver were exceptional in terms of attention to detail and always being available to deal with our needs and resonse to our requests, as well as always being friendly, courteous and helpful. The choice of sites, hotels, restaurants, etc., was great and much appreciated. For the most part, I think the itinerary is fine, except for the fact that, for this tour, there needs to be a better description regarding the amount of walking required. Although I do not find the 13,000 steps per day that I experieced to be overly strenuous on normal terrain, it was certainly excessive because of the cobblestones and hundreds of stairs that we climbed, up and down, to be excessive. This is NOT made clear in the itinerary and was certainly stated by members of our group.

Good driver and tour guide but local tour director would be very helpful. City tour specialists were mediocre except in Sarajevo. Baggage handling was excellent. To cover the same itinerary on your own would mean a lot of coordination and this was handled well. Hotels were mostly good except for the last one in Dubrovnik which though is a 5 star hotel has a lot of navigating around and elevators were not going to the lobby so either one is forced to carry the luggage downstairs or wait for bellboy. All the breakfast areas in different cities even though were good, placement of items was scattered around so when there were multiple tour groups that were all packed in there seating area was hard to navigate. Tour bus was comfortable but due to removing seats to accommodate for extra leg room the air vents were not aligned with the seats! Also no individual charging ports were available on the coach! Wish there was a local person who could be the Tour Director as would be more informative and then possibly not need local guides most of whom were average except in Zagreb and Sarajevo who were excellent. Montenegro seemed more like a smaller but more touristy version of Dubrovnik so we were disappointed. Spring time is good with slightly lower crowds and better temperatures but when it rains it pours! Wish some tours which were optional would have been an included part of the tour especially Lake Bled. Also note that in Vienna if you’re going out to eat dinner later than 9pm only bars are open so get street food or eat earlier which we were unaware of especially since it’s a big city.

Lots of history that we've seen and explained by our tour director and local guide. but much of the local guide walk abouts were much too long and not appropriate for people who have difficulty walking extensively up steep inclines and over rough terrain.

The communication & customer service were poor in the beginning. Our flight was late, and luggage misplaced. We paid for a shuttle ride to the hotel, but there was no shuttle provided. The tour guide told us we had to get to the hotel the best way we could. I believe that as a tour guide, they should be in a position to be our eyes and ears in a foreign country by assisting as much as possible. Or, at the very least, being sensitivity to our dilemma then providing a suitable alternative! I was not happy with the customer service. I didn't feel assured with the tour guide regarding assisting where needed. I felt we were on our own in a foreign country.

Didn’t have to worry about anything. Everything provided trip wise. Excellent well informed guides. Allowed free time and ability to choose our extras. Great hotels except for the Hotel Lyra. Very modern but didn’t seem geared to a traveller’s needs. Loved the opportunity to visit people in Sarajevo and hear about the war years. The prepared food was excellent and the hosts very outgoing. Our guides in Sarajevo, Ljubljana, and Split were absolutely exceptional. Loved the opportunity to start from Vienna which I heard you are deleting, unfortunately. Excellent, so well organized and informative. Plenty of variety in excursions.
