Itinerary
Good Morning - meet up with your Trip Manager this morning as you get an early start and meet up with your Contiki Squad who your going to be hanging out with for the upcoming days. First up we have to say Arrivederci Roma. No doubt packed full of pizza, pasta and gelato, we say a fond farewell, knowing that another Italian icon is just around the corner…Verona! In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, a posse of travellers, all alike in excitement, check out the place that inspired Romeo & Juliet, yes, the very same balcony. One for the romantics of the group. We'll also check out the Roman Arena where other love stories were told. Yes, it's as cute as you imagine. Yes, you'll feel like you're part of an Italian fairytale. Yes, you are actually hanging out in the gondola clad floating city of Venice! And tomorrow it is yours to explore...
Accommodation: A&O Venice Mestre (or similar)
Wake-up sleeping beauties! Venice is yours for the entirety of this glorious Italian day. We'll be jumping aboard our own private boat and hitting the canals en route to the historical heart of the city. A guided walking tour and a gondola ride are up for grabs, or you can always choose to get lost on your own and see where the maze takes you.
Accommodation: Anda Venice Hostel (or similar)
Meals: Breakfast
That's it for our stint in Italy. Gelato, pizza, historical monuments, coastlines, gondolas; you have all been wonderful! Onwards and geographically upwards - it's time for the mountain ranges that made the Sound of Music famous. Also home to Mozart, you can be pretty certain this place knows a beat. Today we'll also see the largest preserved fortress in Central Europe - Hohensalzburg - and have the chance to visit a local farm and enjoy an authentic Austrian Dinner prepared by our hosts.
Accommodation: A&O Salzburg (or similar)
Meals: Breakfast
Austria, you are an overwhelming beauty. Although it would be nice to stay forever, it's time for us to cross the border into the Czech Republic. With Prague on the horizon, things are looking mighty fine. Castles and bridges and gothic cathedrals make the city of Prague a surprise and delight. Compact and bursting with atmosphere, use your free time to trot around on foot and see what you stumble upon (hoping to heaven it's the traditional fruit dumpling of ovocné knedlíky).
Accommodation: Plus Prague (or similar)
Meals: Breakfast
With a full day to loiter, expect an entire photo album of Gothic architecture, market antiques & you cheers-ing local beer; not to mention life! Use your free time to shop for some famous Bohemian beads and amber jewellery or dive a little deeper into the lanes and courtyards of the Old Town, and sus out a roof bar for a cocktail overlooking the city.
Accommodation: Plus Prague (or similar)

Just remember, with every great city we leave behind, we get a little bit closer to somewhere new to explore. And today that somewhere new happens to be the cultural hub of Berlin. Thanks for everything, Czech! road trip from Prague to Berlin would not be complete without stopping in Dresden. Destroyed during World War II, the rebuilt city is now a symbol of resilience, soaked in the rebirth beauty of an Opera house, the domed Frauenkirche, & the Royal Residence. Come for a wall covered in art & history, stay for a culture of cool, a smorgasbord of partying & enough unique German flair to leave you desperate to see the rest of the country. Today we will shower you in iconic sites, none more interesting than the remains of the Berlin Wall.

Get into the mood of exploration. Berlin has so much to offer the hungry traveller, from the obvious icons like Checkpoint Charlie to all the obscurities tucked away in the side streets.

It's time to hit the original fast-track of the autobahn and make our way out of Germany. We have one last city to tick off & it's sure to see us go out with a bang. Whatever eclectic fantasies you have about Amsterdam, the real life version will impress you more. Fire yourself up for pretty canals, a bounty of unique museums, an optional comedy show & quirky cafes galore.
Accommodation: Via Hostel Amsterdam (or similar)
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Amsterdam is cute as a button & sure to win your heart with its canals, obscure museums & a café culture like no other. Contiki (CA)
Contiki is a New Zealand-based tour company that caters to 18 to 35-year-olds, offering over 350 different tours in over 75 countries in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, North America, South America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.[1] It is a subsidiary of The Travel Corporation. Its tours historically had a reputation for partying;[2][3] however, it also operates wellness trips culturally immersive experiences that focus less on alcohol, which are more popular with Generation Z.[4] The company owns lodging facilities in Europe, including the Chateau De Cruix, a 16th century castle in the Beaujolais wine region, and the Gasthof Schoneck in the Austrian Tyrol. The name "Contiki" comes from the portmanteau 'Con' from the word 'Continent' and 'Tiki'; from the Māori referring to the first man, often symbolised as a pendant known as hei-tiki. It can also be attributed to the New Zealand slang 'Tiki-tour' describing taking a longer route to a destination in order to explore.[5]

The trip was great! Our trip manager was very knowledgeable and gave great insight about each city. I also loved how she ran the group chats because it made it super easy to plan out our day. She provided us with maps that we can use to roam around. The group was also very fun and easy to get along with. If you wanted to go somewhere you can easily find people to go with you! Highly recommend this trip! Very easy to book. This was my 2nd time booking with contiki.

The trip guide was nice to give you insight on the country and city and give recommendations of things to do. The coach bus was also nice. Everything else was disappointing. I was one of two Americans out of 25 which were otherwise Australian and New Zealanders. I was also older than everyone at the age of 29. I was even older than the driver and tour guide. I expected more diversity. Several of the hostels were not up to par and made for sleepless nights in stuffy hot non air-conditioned rooms. Pace of the trip is a little too fast for my liking. Would have enjoyed to have at least 2 full days in each city.

Overall, majority of the time spent on this trip was driving through countries rather than experiencing the culture first hand. Unfortunately, there was a severe accident that delayed our drive to Salzburg by 2 hours and as a consequence we weren’t able to tour Salzburg at all, as we were only staying the night. Most of the hostels were really far out of the main city and consequently different to just walk into town and experience things. The add ons are quite expensive and some just weren’t good value for money. The tour was an opportunity to see a small snippet of each city, but didn’t provide a lot of information about each place we stayed at unless we paid the extra to go on the tours. I personally wouldn’t recommend this tour to someone who wants to experience the beauty of these countries. My travel agent contacted Contiki 2 weeks prior to the tour starting to confirm where the group would be meeting so I could book at the same place the night prior to avoid having to travel and costs. Despite stating on my login profile that the itinerary for my trip would be up at least 1 week prior to it commencing, it was never put up even whilst on the trip. I only received an email with the meeting place for our tour a day before the tour started, where it was confirmed that they had changed the hostel they were staying with. This then meant I had to travel an hour via public transport to the hostel they’d booked.

Our tour manager and driver really did a great job and made sure we were all included, safe and having fun all the time. Joining midway on a modular tour was difficult due to others having travelled together for longer periods but really tried his best to involve everyone together. Some activities seemed a little expensive for what you got but most of them I felt I felt like I got my moneys worth. The Berlin historical walking tour was a highlight for me personally and the schnapps tasting in Salzburg too. It really was a very fun 10 days :). Booked last minute and the customer service team on the quick chats were very helpful and kind. Made it very easy to book and very stress-free. Did not receive a welcome email which was the only stress prior to the start of the trip as I was not 100% of the meet up location.

The trip was very nice and the add on activities were really good, the trip manager I had was very nice and caring about everyone. Very easy to book didn’t realise I could buy add in before on the trip and I didn’t see anywhere that said that until after I had paid and I couldn’t go back to add them in but apart from that very chilled and easy to book.

Trip manager was amazing!! She killed it, her maps and insight she provided was great when you only had limited time in the cities. Choose no regrets and so everything, all activists were great and was good to bond with other travellers just be prepared for spending a fair amount of extra money. Once on the contiki it was great! Would have been nice to have some more additional information prior to leaving, such as an itinerary and the starting hotel as this was different on the info given, only knew because went through travel agent.
