FAQs
- London: What does a modular trip mean? A modular trip means fellow travellers will join and leave at various locations. There’ll be some goodbyes, sure, but there’ll also be plenty of hellos with new like-minded travellers.
- Oslo: What’s the weather like in winter? Scandinavia can be extremely cold during the winter (we’re talking 0°C or 32°F). Heads up! On rare occasions your Trip Manager might be forced to alter the itinerary due to adverse weather conditions.
- Oslo: What should I pack for a winter trip in Scandinavia? Pack warm! We suggest bringing a warm waterproof jacket, gloves, thermals, hat, and sunglasses. Plus, a good pair of sturdy shoes for walking across snow or ice.
- Oslo: What’s the weather like in summer? Scandinavian weather can be extremely varied. In the shoulder season (May and October) you can expect single-digit temperature and warm sunny days. From June until September, temperatures can reach well above 30° C (86° F).
- Oslo: What should I pack for a summer trip in Scandinavia? It’s always a good idea to bring a warm windproof jacket cuz it can get quite cool at night especially outside of the cities.
- Oslo: Will I see the Northern Lights? Hopefully! The Northern Lights (AKA the Aurora Borealis) are a natural display of coloured lights in the night sky of the northern hemisphere. They’re a natural phenomenon, so it can never be guaranteed. But you’ll have a higher chance of seeing them the further up north you go & if the sky’s clear. (Fingers crossed...)
- Oslo: What currencies will I encounter on this trip? The currencies of the countries we visit on this trip are the Danish Krone (DKK), the Norwegian Krone (NOK), and the Swedish Krone (SEK). Need cash? ATMs are readily available, and most places accept credit/debit cards.

Contiki (CA)
Contiki is a New Zealand-based tour company that caters to 18 to 35-year-olds, offering over 350 different tours in over 75 countries in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, North America, South America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.[1] It is a subsidiary of The Travel Corporation. Its tours historically had a reputation for partying;[2][3] however, it also operates wellness trips culturally immersive experiences that focus less on alcohol, which are more popular with Generation Z.[4] The company owns lodging facilities in Europe, including the Chateau De Cruix, a 16th century castle in the Beaujolais wine region, and the Gasthof Schoneck in the Austrian Tyrol. The name "Contiki" comes from the portmanteau 'Con' from the word 'Continent' and 'Tiki'; from the Māori referring to the first man, often symbolised as a pendant known as hei-tiki. It can also be attributed to the New Zealand slang 'Tiki-tour' describing taking a longer route to a destination in order to explore.[5]

I absolutely loved this trip, it was the best balance of exploring, travelling and didn't feel very rushed. Absolutely loved the special stay we stayed at, it was a great way of connecting with your contiki crew even more and just having fun. I wish we got to see more of the Fjords during the cruise as it was only a small short cruise but other then that, the trip was amazing.

One of the best contiki trips I've ever done. Really good accommodations and the trip itself feels like a good pace even though it's not a lot of time (I wish it was longer). Learnt and felt what the true meaning of hygge means for Scandics. Had so much fun having contiki fam nights at Torgas - felt so much at home.

I booked Scandinavia Winter as a last minute deal. The booking process was smooth and easy. This was a great trip, with a top guide and driver. The hotels up to Stockholm were very nice with good breakfasts. The special stay at Torgas was beautiful. Lillehammer was such a surprise, like a winter wonderland, and we had a great evening there. It could be an option to consider doing a night there rather than doing the late night journey, in winter conditions, to Elverum where we checked in at 10pm and then left the next morning. This was different to other trips I’ve done with Contiki, as it had a different pace with a special stay in the middle and the group was a varied mix. For this reason, I would recommend this trip to anyone who hasn’t done a Contiki before or is a bit nervous about doing a first solo trip! The online booking process was easy to complete and communications were sent promptly.

The Trip was excellently ran covering a large area in a short space of time. The tour guide was helpful, knowledgeable and friendly and the bus driver smooth and steady behind the wheel. The bus was clean, the hotels decent for the price paid and the time in Torgas incredible and by far the best part! I booked the trip last minute (10 days before it started) having to speak to a team member on the phone to book. The team were helpful, understanding and efficient.

If you are thinking about this trip, do it! Every place was beautiful, and my trip manager and driver were so knowledgeable and helpful. We found the special stay to be fabulous, having the whole place to ourselves was relaxing, and helped us bond even further. I do think that adding a night to Oslo would be beneficial. The time in Copenhagen and Stockholm is okay because you can add on a night at the beginning/end of the tour in order to explore the places properly, but since Oslo is in the middle, you don’t get that chance. I also think that more detailed information about the age to enter bars/clubs should have been provided, as each city had different requirements. If you are under 21, you probably won’t be able to enter most places. All in all though, magical holiday.

This trip was such a dream! The Contiki trip team of Raf and Bushby helped everything run smoothly. All the activities and accomodation were amazing with a particular stand out being our traditional stay. The countries were beautiful and our guide made sure we always had plenty to do, see and experience. I made so many great connections, friends and memories which I will hold close forever thanks to this trip.
