Itinerary
Welcome to Dallas, where the food portions are as big as the belt buckles. This morning we're headed to melodic Memphis to experience the true American South. Along the way, we'll see Little Rock High school, a historic site of the Civil Rights Movement. A group of nine African American students enrolled here in 1957, but were met from violent protests by segregationists, which resulted in a mothershed legal case to allow white and black students to study in the same schools. Boggles the mind, doesn't it? Feeling reflective, but still excited as can be, we'll swing on into Memphis, you'll get a city orientation of this musical city. We'll hang out in Beale Street, home of blues music, and maybe enjoy aa few Memphis Jams (a cocktail of honeyball, lime and local jams). Feeling right at home, we'll get ready for a day of adventures tomorrow.

Our recommendation? Head to the French Quarter for some classic gumbo, or experience your own Airboat adventure.

Contiki (CA)
Contiki is a New Zealand-based tour company that caters to 18 to 35-year-olds, offering over 350 different tours in over 75 countries in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, North America, South America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.[1] It is a subsidiary of The Travel Corporation. Its tours historically had a reputation for partying;[2][3] however, it also operates wellness trips culturally immersive experiences that focus less on alcohol, which are more popular with Generation Z.[4] The company owns lodging facilities in Europe, including the Chateau De Cruix, a 16th century castle in the Beaujolais wine region, and the Gasthof Schoneck in the Austrian Tyrol. The name "Contiki" comes from the portmanteau 'Con' from the word 'Continent' and 'Tiki'; from the Māori referring to the first man, often symbolised as a pendant known as hei-tiki. It can also be attributed to the New Zealand slang 'Tiki-tour' describing taking a longer route to a destination in order to explore.[5]

I felt the website was out of date so didn’t portray the proper details of the trip, the activities were okay, I enjoyed Graceland and the Miami bike tour but lack of safety in the kayaks was disappointing.

What was good? We visited all of the places that I have always wanted to go to and I have made some great memories. What wasn't good? Long driving days. If you book this 10 day trip, prepare to be on the coach for half of that time. Contiki is renowned for being a company that attracts young 18-young 20 year olds who love to party. If this is what you want, this trip would be great for you. If this isn't your style then try another company. For this reason I would not book another Contiki trip again unfortunately. Personally, a trip of 45 guests is far too big. Booking through Tour Radar makes it pretty easy. However, I wish I would have booked through Contiki as I saw other guests using the app which would have been super friendly.

This trip joins another trip half way through so the group was very well established by the time we joined leading to an awkward start. The trip manager didn’t do much to try and overcome this, just was happy with her group that was already bonded and forgot about the rest. This wasn’t mentioned by Contiki at the point of booking, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have booked. New Orleans was a highlight, the swamp boat tour was definitely worth it. Miami wasn’t great as the hotel didn’t even have water/ice available you had to go to the restaurant next door. Most hotels were pretty good quality, apart from Miami. The included meal in Miami was awful, the one in Memphis was nice though. When you look back on it’s there are hardly any included activities, everything is just a free time add on or a free day. Great trip overall but some aspects disappointing! The bus journeys between each place always took loads longer than expected with all the stops. Some days we didn’t even leave til late leading to a full 8 hour day of travel! The driver was great though, nice and polite unlike the trip manager! Booking process was fine, but it wasn’t made clear that this trip joins another established one half way through!

The tour manager was hopeless. She didn’t accomodate us with the contiki group (as we joined in halfway on a tour) and felt as though she already had her people she wanted to help. Not only was she expecting a tip for her lack of service, it felt that she was making us feel bad if we didn’t tip, when she didn’t provide a great service. This was my first contiki and would not recommend. Very disappointed and left pondering what is the big deal about a contiki... maybe try the western discovery, because the east side of America was nothing but city life and with a poor tour manager you don’t find out much about them. We had more information about DC from an Uber driver! Contiki was fine with organising the trip.

More local tour guides through the southeastern regions as like in Chaleston. Tour guide was very knowledgeable. Was a great trip with a lot of history. Worth doing.
